A good routine can be the key to success for you. Finding the right routine can be a challenge for some. Staying consistent with it might be an issue for others. I’ve known people that just, altogether don’t do routines when it comes to certain things. Everyone has their strengths, but almost all of those strengths can be complemented with a dependable, sustainable routine.
Welcome to Topic Thursdays, where we focus on a specific topic related to business, finance, or life in general. This week, we’re talking about the importance of having good habits.
Good Routines vs. Bad Routines
One of the most rewarding things that I get to do is to help people reach their goals. I am so blessed to be able to see the successes of people on so many levels. As a physical therapist, many times I get to see patients improve in the most obvious sense. I bet most doctors would tell you that when a person with an impairment is able to resume their normal, healthy life, it’s deeply fulfilling. But it also makes me a little curious, at times.
Especially when I see lots of people with similar injuries, I start to see that many people do a lot of the same things in their daily lives. For instance, a person with a habit of sitting with a slouch might injure their neck and back more often than someone with good posture. Someone who habitually smokes cigarettes will likely develop more respiratory issues than someone who doesn’t.
Doing something a little risky every once in a while is dangerous enough; you have to take risks and be able to recognize opportunities for gain. But on the other hand, having a risky, unhealthy, or dangerous habit can lead you straight to catastrophe. Even if you haven’t always had the best habits, learn from yourself. You’re always your best teacher. it’s okay to forgive yourself for your mistakes.
We must all weigh the consequences of our actions. Just as bad habits can be detrimental to your health, your finances, and your ultimate wellbeing, good habits can promote stability, comfort, and happiness for you. Here are 3 easy habits you can quickly start to make your life better:
Drink More Water
Dehydration can be more than just uncomfortable. It can actually cause some serious health problems in the long term, and that’s under normal weather conditions. This summer, we’re experiencing a heatwave over much of the country. It’s a great time to make it a habit to drink more water. Plentiful water is critical for the functioning of your organs in extreme conditions. Be safe and smart this summer; bring water with you when you head outdoors.
Go For A Walk
Now that your hydration is taken care of, it’s time to get outside. Set aside time to take a 15-20 minute walk a few times a week. Depending on the time of year, your own personal health, and probably many other factors, find the best way to consistently get this exercise in. As long as you’re healthy and uninjured, a few walks a week can be a great personal fitness habit, with results far greater than the effort.
Do Some Stretching
Stress and body tension can lead to headaches. Even if you’re sitting down all day, you still need to get up and stretch out every once in a while. Typing away at a computer all day may not be physically taxing in the way that carrying something heavy might be, but it still taxes you. If you work at a desk and get occasional headaches, you might benefit from a daily stretch routine.
Getting a feel for the right routines can pay off in lots of ways. Reap the benefits.
