The Importance Of The Right Healing Strategy

The body is a magnificent instrument, full of all kinds of capabilities. Most of them you never even see; it’s so efficient that you don’t notice when your blood pumps, when neurons flash electrical signals throughout your nervous system, or when you digest your food.

It’s usually when something goes wrong that you start to notice how things should be working.

Welcome to Topic Tuesday, where we discuss something specifically related to health, business, success, or life in general. Today, we’re going to talk about how important it is to have the right recovery plan when something goes wrong.

An Injury Is Just The Beginning

You always want to start with a good support system when you’re dealing with setbacks. Especially with injuries, it’s never good to have to deal with everything on your own. Even if you pride yourself on being independent and self-sufficient, you have to take into account that you’re limited now.

When all its cylinders are firing perfectly and it has the right fuel/air mixture, an engine has the potential to give the best performance. You can make estimates on gas mileage, top speed, and regular maintenance. But if there’s a problem somewhere, the engine will lose power and reliability. Ignoring the limitations caused by these problems can get you into trouble on the road.

Your body is a lot like a well-oiled machine; when something goes wrong, it will probably still work – just not as well as it could. Pushing too hard when there’s already a minor issue could easily exacerbate things into a serious problem. When you’re injured, don’t under-estimate your recovery.

Instead, here are some things to keep in mind when you’re on the mend.

Start with the Right Mindset

You’re going to get better. If you take yourself, you’re going to be taken care of. You have to always remember that what you’re trying to do requires forethought, time and patience. It might not be as automatic as we want it to be all the time, but things that are worth your time require more effort. You’re important; give yourself the space you need to succeed.

Have a support system

Getting over an injury can be a lot more daunting if you’re trying to do everything by yourself. One person can only do so much. And besides this, one pair of eyes can only see what you’re looking at. Especially when you might be distracted by pain or limited mobility, it can really help to have someone else who can help keep an eye on those blind spots.

When you’re feeling a little discouraged with your progress, it’s a lot harder to spiral when you have people around you that can keep you grounded.

Use the Right Tools

Whether it’s rehab from a knee surgery or some daily exercises for carpal tunnel syndrome, your efforts to do all the right exercises, stretches, and treatments are only a part of the equation. You have to make sure you’re doing the right things before you try your hardest at doing them.

Sometimes it’s easy to tell what’s wrong with the body, and you can do a little research and find a way to alleviate some things. But often, it’s helpful to have a professional do a real diagnosis and find the source of the pain. If you think you’ve sprained your ankle, but really, your lymphatic system has a problem, you might assume the swelling in your legs is from an injury.

When you hurt an ankle, you need to rest, elevate, and use ice for the swelling. But if your legs are swollen due to a lymphatic system issue, sitting still for a few days is probably not the best thing for you at all. While either of these might be great, they’re only useful when you use them the right way.
