This morning, I want to talk a little about routines. When first established, a routine can be a productivity booster. It can let you group certain tasks to accomplish your goals more easily. This is especially useful when it comes to repetitive and daily tasks. Over time, a routine can become like second nature.
But eventually you need to take a look at what you’re doing and see if it’s still putting you where you want to be.
Welcome to Topic Tuesday, where we discuss a specific topic related to business, finance, or life in general. Today, we’re going to talk about how your decisions define who you are.
Change Your Mindset
Changing paths in life is never easy. You don’t get to rely on old habits anymore. You can’t just go with the flow of a settled routine. You have to think about the things you want your life to reflect in every decision you make.
Your “why” should keep you focused not just in the long term, but in every day decisions as well.
Waking up one day and doing things completely differently than you’re used to is not automatic. When you start to do this, it’s not the first step in your transformation. Your mindset will have already been changed before you would’ve been able to change anything physically.
Changing your life for the better is a side effect of changing your goals. When you commit to chasing a dream, your day-to-day must build on that path.
Over time, you’ll be able to look back and see how you got to where you are. In the meantime, keep this thought close. When:
you’re saving money for investing instead of indulging and spending
or you’re going to bed earlier so you have time to hit the gym instead of losing sleep
or even taking time off work, so you can go to a family function,
each step away from the old is a step toward something new. Walk away from mediocre habits and routines. The best version of you is waiting.
Saving Money
There are all kinds of ways to cut unnecessary expenses. Take a look at your monthly expenses and find out what the biggest ones are. For many, it’s living expenses, whether a mortgage payment or a rent payment to a landlord. Unless you’re willing to make some drastic changes to your living arrangements, and in some cases, your long term investments, chances are your biggest expense is probably worth it to you to keep.
If that’s the case, consider some of your smaller expenses. Individually, they probably don’t seem like much to you. If at the end of the month you feel as though you should have more than you do, chances are it’s because those smaller expenses are starting to add up.
Getting Rest
Many of us don’t prioritize sleep as much as we should. Even if you’re already eating a healthy diet and you’re working out regularly, you’ll be much better off physically and mentally when you’re getting good sleep on a consistent basis.
Sleep is more than just a way to replenish your energy at the end of the day. It also helps regulate your hormone levels. When a person is sleep deprived, you may not be able to tell. They might not be able to tell, with sufficient caffeine.
They may outwardly appear normal, but their performance at everything they do will suffer compared to a well-rested version of the same person. Even if you can outperform your peers while sleep-deprived, you’ll never reach your own true potential without being consistently well rested.
Are you ready to transform your life and reach your goals? If you knew just how possible it is to make your dreams come true in life, you’d already be living them. It’s not as far off as you might think it is. Sometimes, it just takes the right change in mindset.
