3 Money-Saving Hacks To Upgrade Your Budget

In my work as a physical therapist I get to touch the lives of many people and I’m thankful to G-d for this every day. But I also get to help people in other aspects as well. It’s my mission to improve the lives of as many people as possible, in all aspects. It’s not just about the physical.

If you’re struggling with debt or you need help with finances, I’ve got a question for you today:

Do you have lots of monthly subscription services?

The conveniences are great, and we deserve to enjoy the fruits of our labor once in a while. Having a hot meal delivered to us when we could’ve easily cooked dinner is more expensive, for instance, but many people do it.

But are these conveniences really worth how they’re holding you back financially?

Welcome to Transform Tuesday, where we discuss a specific topic related to business, finance, or life in general. Today, I want to share 3 Money-Saving Hacks To Upgrade Your Budget:

Cut Your Expenses

Even small expenses can really add  up if you have enough of them. Over time, the things you get used to become part of your reality. If you got used to getting paid on Friday and being broke on Monday, you might start to think this is normal.

It’s not. Even if you’re completely comfortable moment to moment, but you’ve spent all of your money to be comfortable, you’ve put yourself in a vulnerable position financially.

If any little thing changes, the cost of eggs, gas prices, etc., the effects will be obvious and dramatic. You’ll have no savings to insulate yourself with. You’ll have no investment at all. It depends on what you want out of life, but chances are this is not a good situation for you to be in financially.

To really transform your financial situation, you’ll need to take an honest look at your regular expenses. Why are you running out of money? Are you making enough, but spending it on all the wrong things?

Or are you not making enough, and budgeting down to the penny just to make ends meet?

Negotiate Your Bills

Did you know that you can haggle with service providers for a better deal? It’s true – most people just don’t try it. Your phone, internet ISP, and even your utilities in some instances, can be negotiated with for lower bills, In some instances, savings could turn out to be fairly significant. Medical bills, once negotiated in this way, can end up being thousands of dollars less than they would’ve been otherwise.

Sometimes, it’s not very clear which businesses offer payment flexibility to their customers. You might not be able to tell which of your service providers offer discounts. The best way to find out is to ask. Some providers have policies that allow customers to request lower rates.

Manage Your Lifestyle

Living within your means is the most important of all the money-saving techniques. It sounds simple when I say things like, “Don’t buy what you can’t afford.” But a lot of purchases and agreements start out as better deals than they might end up being in the end. In any economy, the costs of goods and services fluctuate.

When something that you’re accustomed to buying regularly has a sudden swing in price, you have choices to make. You can keep purchasing it, despite the increased cost to you, or you can choose an alternative that isn’t so expensive. More than likely, there are some things you can sacrifice more comfortably than others.

Probably your biggest expense is your dwelling. Many people spend over half their monthly income on rent. A household paying 70%-80% of their total income just to break even only has a precious 20%-30% for everything else. Food, childcare, insurance, utilities, car notes, and everything else that the family would need is much more likely to exceed the remainder.
