Let’s say you’re ready to make that change in your life that you’ve been really wanting to. You’re done taking yourself and your opportunities for granted and now it’s time for a transformation in your overall life. You’re going to get in shape, stop spending all your money, and truly dedicate yourself. You don’t want only one piece of success; you want holistic growth.
Well, it’s not going to be easy. Changing course in life is more of a challenge than staying on track. Habit is more efficient than discovery. Even a change for the better is going to be difficult compared to sticking to your original plans.
But if your habits and patterns aren’t serving you, don’t keep repeating them!
Welcome to Topic Thursdays, when we focus on a specific topic related to business, finance, or life in general. Today, we’re going to talk about how purpose effects your identity; for better or for worse, no matter what aspect of your life you’re focused on.
We all have things we want out of life. Circumstances can dictate that you only have so much time to do things. But as these circumstances of your life change over the course of it, you’ll eventually find that you want to change your direction. Are you struggling to stay commited to your long term goals? There’s a common reason most people give up, and it’s not just a matter of willpower. Read more to find out how you can keep going when everyone else would’ve quit.
Find Your Why
Once you recognize where the problems really are, it’s up to you to make the decision to commit to a better process. To be truly successful you must believe you’re worth it every step of the way, no matter how hard it gets. You must have a wealth mindset before you get started to have the success that you’re truly capable of. This is very important.
You have to be able to fully commit and focus all of your intention onto each step. Not only will this make sure that you’re dedicated to getting everything right, you’ll start to set the tone for the next thing you have to do. Doing your best on steps 1 and 2 will make you much more inclined to do your best on step 3.
But on the other hand, half-hearted effort in the beginning might make you feel like there’s no point in putting in any real effort by the end. If you did everything up to this point to the absolute best of your ability, you’ll very likely be incentivized to do your absolute best on the next step in that process.
Why would you put in all that work, effort and time just to carelessly knock down your progress with a low effort follow-up? The answer is simple: if you’re serious about changing your life, you won’t. You’ll already know that you don’t have forever to achieve your goals, and your current opportunities aren’t always going to be there. When you know there’s no time to waste, you won’t waste time.
Reboot Your Mindset
A person that commits to every step is focused on getting everything right; not just the general strategy, but each piece and detail. This level of focus might seem a little redundant at first, but it’s important to set the right overall habits when you’re doing anything important. Embrace the tedium and prepare for best results you’ve ever had.
Once you’re in the groove of putting forth championship-level effort for yourself, focusing on doing your absolute best will start to come naturally to you in other aspects of your life. That extra mile you could go for yourself won’t seem as far. That extra care you’re required to give yourself to get to the next level won’t seem tedious anymore.
Willpower isn’t something you can just decide out of the blue. It takes effort to use it, and even more effort to build it. But luckily, there’s a way to train yourself to want to do better. This process of changing how you mentally approach challenges takes time. It takes a lot of effort, especially to set the initial habit of doing this. At first, you’ll question yourself when things get harder. You’ll think about relief when the heat gets turned up. But if your mind is already trained to believe in yourself, you’ll remember why you got started instead of all the reasons you should quit.
If that reason is important enough to you, you won’t give up because of the temporary discomfort you’re experiencing in any moment; instead you’ll remember why it was worth it to you to start this journey in the first place.
