If you know me, you know that I like to keep things real and honest. The recent news about PnB Rock has really struck me this week, so I wanted to take a minute and have a blunt, honest conversation about it.

For those who might not have seen my earlier post and need some context, the rapper was fatally shot in September and passed away at 30 years old. Most people think of 30 as being incredibly young – it’s the age of someone just starting out in their career, when the possibilities feel endless, or like their life is just beginning. But the reality is that nothing is guaranteed – our lives could end at any moment, and we need to be prepared for it. In PnB’s case (one that’s all too common), his girlfriend revealed that he had no will or life insurance policy in place. Because of this, it leaves her without access to funds for his funeral, or any additional support. There’s no doubt that this is a tragic situation, but like I said, I’m going to be real about it.

The fact of the matter is, it was completely avoidable, which just adds to the tragedy. So, I’m going to list some reasons why you should start thinking about life insurance TODAY:

1. You’re Not Too Young

Like PnB, any of us could end up in an unfortunate circumstance, regardless of what age we are. Things like a robbery, car accident, or worse. I’m not trying to be an alarmist, but it’s naive to think that there isn’t a chance that these things could happen. As someone who had a heart attack at an early age, it’s possible, trust me. Don’t tell yourself that “you’ll think about it later,” because “later” could already be too late.

2. Your Family Will Thank You

Though it can be a tough or morbid discussion to have with the ones you love, I assure you that it’s way better to experience a few moments of discomfort instead of a lifetime of loss and financial stress. The pain of losing someone is already hard, and to compound that with the fear of not being able to afford a funeral, let alone basic living expenses, is truly an unfathomable burden. So, though it may feel awkward to bring up now, it’s something your family will thank you for later.

3. It Doesn’t Take Long To Set Up
